Have Dental Floss, Will Travel

Mapping the world, one waxy strand at a time…

DNF

Thank you for all your well-wishes and concerns – I really appreciated your notes and comments. As some of you saw in the race media coverage, our team pulled off the course on Wednesday morning, after 48 hours of racing.

We were all struggling to varying degrees with the extreme heat and sun, and it ultimately became unsafe to continue on.

Now three days later, we’ve recovered physically and are getting there mentally.  The race ended officially last night at 6 pm, and we’re still camped out at the finish line lodge.  We return to San Jose today for the closing ceremonies and then try to move on with a few days of traveling through the Costa Rican highlands.

Even with the disappointing results, we still enjoyed a pretty incredible two days of racing.  We rode through banana plantations, kayaked alongside crocodiles, forded rivers, and trekked up steep jungle passes.

And we made sure to take lots of pictures along the way.

I´ll be back later this week with the race highlights and lowlights, along with some CR adventures for good measure.

Have you ever played catch with monkeys?

I saw you guys pulled out, so I’m glad you let us know you are alright! You are still my hero and I can’t wait to see pictures! Watch out for the monkeys, my Costa Rican tour guide says they like to pee on tourists.

Wow, that sounds like it was tough, but definitely better to DNF in good shape than try to Finish and need to go to the hospital. Can’t wait to hear more details.

Team SOG is looking for a lady to join them for the Equinox if you have some pent-up race aggression you need to leave out on a course somewhere.

Sorry to read about the DNF, but definitely still impressed with what you’ve done and glad that you are all okay. Best to be smart and be able to keep enjoying what you love to do, rather than seriously injured or ill. Congrats to you all and I can’t wait to see pics.
