Filmic Friday: Inspiration Station

Don’t Forget to check out the Kahtoola Microspikes Giveaway!

It’s funny – I spent the past six weeks enjoying a state of relative inactivity (‘relative’ being the operative word there), but as soon as I jumped back on the training bandwagon last week, my body started craving the endorphins.

Yesterday morning, I left the house at 5:30 AM to drive to Boston for a conference.  Between the six-hour trip and a chock full schedule, I didn’t have time to get in a run or a ride, and by the end of the day, I felt all kinds of antsy!

For a lot of us, the start of the year means big plans, new goals, and renewed energy for what’s to come.  But to maintain that level of commitment when the excitement wears off, sometimes an extra boost of inspiration comes in handy.

I have a soft spot in my heart for sappy sports movies (I’ll admit it – it’s one of my favorite genres), so when I’m looking for that extra oomph, I’ll dig out my copy of Remember the Titans, or Miracle, or Prefontaine, or Rocky (or Mighty Ducks… Ah, Charlie…).

No matter how many times I watch these movies, they always have the same effect.  I laugh.  I cry.  I well up with pride.  And when they’re over, I feel like I can gut my way through just about anything.

So, in honor of new years and new goals and new plans, tell me – what’s your favorite sappy sports movie?  Which one leaves you feeling like you can conquer the world?
