A Birthday to Remember

I spent my sixteenth birthday in Palo Alto, California, at a swimming training camp.  The olympic coach sang Happy Birthday to me between sets.

I turned 24 on a family vacation to Hawaii.  We spent the day visiting Pearl Harbor and drinking mango margaritas on the beach.

Today may have topped both of those.

To celebrate my 29th birthday, Brent and my dad and I hiked to the Pisac ruins, in Peru´s Sacred Valley.

We arose at 5:45 AM and were out the door by 6:00.  We walked to the Cuzco bus depot to catch the local (read: non-tourist-packed-to-the-gills) bus, and wandered into the town of Pisac an hour later.

After a nice breakfast at the Pisac Inn – where Brent had worked and lived for six weeks after high school – we began our ascent: 5 kilometers and 2000 feet of elevation.

I had planned to do a post of pictures, but I can’t seem to figure out how to download the photos at the internet cafe, so stay tuned…
