Race Ready

The past month has been filled with one distraction after another, but life seems to be calming down now, and just in time.

After missing the Snowgaine, this upcoming weekend marks the start of the 2010 racing season for me. No, it’s not quite ultra time – the Bel Monte Endurance Challenge is a distant two weeks away. First up in 2010 is this Saturday’s Palmetto Swamp Fox, a twelve-hour adventure race that will have Brent and Chris and me traipsing around the South Carolina swamps.
Aside from Saturday night’s fever and stomach bug that turned Sunday’s planned last long run into a rather pathetic three-mile outing and an hour of easy biking during the Temple-Richmond game, I feel reasonably prepared and ready to go.
My bike is (almost) all cleaned up.
My go-to golite pack is looking forward to a final adventure before it retires to quieter pastures.
And my trail shoes are ready to rock.
Now if I could only ensure that the alligators that have been terrorizing me in my dreams keep their distance during the race…

Yay! Look forward to reading another adventure race report. You are going to nail it. And I sure hope the alligators keep away too!

Have a great race! Maybe a small airhorn would be a food pack addition to scare off any alligaters. I have to imagine anything that loud would work to throw them off 🙂

Good luck! You should be okay in S.C. with the alligators. It's still been cool down there so they are just trying to stay warm. Now if you were going to Florida, that might be a different story.
