A New Day

A quick update from the field…

The fog rolled in thick and fast last night as I made my way from Race Headquarters down to the boat launch on the Connecticut River at 2:00 in the morning. I was simultaneously hoping for and dreading the prospect of a spotting a moose on the 70 minute drive.

We all have our goals for this weekend. Brent’s is to finish the race and not hold back the rest of the team. Mine is to come face-to-face with a moose. I’ve been looking for seven years and have yet to see one. I learned the other day that Brent’s dad, Fred, spent ten years searching before his first sighting. So, my goal for the race is to beat my father-in-law. But not necessarily in dense fog in the wee hours of the morning on the side of a windy road in rural northern New Hampshire.

After spending the night in a field keeping an eye on the gear boxes, I’m now at the Jefferson Inn in Lancaster, NH, awaiting the arrival of the first teams. From the looks of the satellite coverage, GOALS and NYARA are doing a bang-up job and are currently in hot pursuit of the leaders. ATP is kicking ass and taking names; we’re all pulling for them to take out Merrell and earn the top spot to Portugal.

All teams will be receiving trail mail when they arrive at their gear bins about 7 miles from here. Teams GOALS has seen record levels of shout outs – thanks to everyone for the great support so far; keep it up!

I’ll be linking up with all of our favorites within the next couple hours, and will be sure to come back with news and photos galore.

Can't wait to see photos…it'd be cool if you saw your moose and got a pic of it!

So cool! I think if you get moose pee they are supposed to flock around you, as much as moose do. You'd have to smell like moose pee for a while though…
